Our Mission

The Middlebury College Sports Medicine Department delivers traditional athletic training and sports medicine services to the student-athletes of Middlebury College. The services to be delivered can be broken down into three primary types:injury prevention (taping, bracing, padding, orthotics construction), management of athletic injuries and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. In addition, whenever possible, we strive to integrate education about athletic injuries so that our student-athletes can be empowered to lead healthier, injury-free lifestyles. We are committed to using whatever technology is available and affordable in the delivery of these services. We will remain committed to the continuous upgrading of the equipment used in the delivery of sports medicine services so our student-athletes will be assured of the most modern care available.

The purpose of the department is threefold. First, we hope to allow easy access to sports medicine services for our student-athletes. Second, we hope to be able to substantially reduce the risk of athletic injury. Finally, we hope to enable injured student-athletes to return to their sports as soon as is medically safe.

The underlying philosophy for the Middlebury College Sports Medicine Department is that the needs of the patient shall always be the first consideration for all members of the department staff. Furthermore, we expect the athletic trainer(s) who will be providing these services to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainers Association, inc. Code of Professional Practice and the credentialing statues of this state.

We are committed to ongoing evaluation of our department so the users of this service can be assured of the highest quality in sports medicine care. Furthermore, we are committed to addressing problems and concerns in a timely manner so the needs of our student-athletes and employees can continue to be met.

Finally, the Middlebury College Sports Medicine Department aspires to be a program of recognized excellence. To this end, the College has a responsibility to support the department with the human and financial resources necessary to accomplish the stated goals of the program. It is our desire to establish this department as the most outstanding outlet for the delivery of sports medicine services in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
