Announcements

Dear Students,

We’re writing with some important updates about dining services–including expanded hours and offerings at Bicentennial Hall, MiddExpress and changes at other venues–in addition to a new student employment opportunity for those with cooking experience.

If you’re new to the Middlebury campus, some of these names and locations won’t be familiar right away, but they’ll likely be important to you before long.

In the upcoming semester, Atwater, Proctor, and Ross will continue to serve as the main dining halls on campus. Atwater and Proctor dining halls will remain unchanged in their hours of operation and offerings, but we are planning several additions to our late-night offerings as well as adjustments at Ross and at two cafes. We are making these changes in response to student input as well as usage trends and to optimize staffing resources.

The following describes the dining changes coming in the fall:

  • Bi-Hall Kiosk: We are excited to share that we will open a new kiosk to serve students studying and working in Bicentennial Hall and nearby locations. The BiHall kiosk, which will open prior to the start of classes, will offer similar items to MiddExpress such as sushi, grab-and-go items, prepackaged foods, and bottled beverages.
  • Midd Express: We are also happy to share that MiddExpress in McCullough Student Center will be open for various hot food options seven nights a week. We are working to open the Grille for late-night hours as well and will keep you updated on those changes.
  • Ross Dining Hall: After collecting student input and evaluating student usage of various dining halls, we have decided to make the following changes and adjustments at Ross Dining Hall:
    • Hours will be unchanged; the dining hall will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily, but we will now offer continuous dining. Students will be able to come in for hot food after the normal lunch rush, a change we expect will help lessen lines during our peak hours.
    • In the morning hours, Ross will offer continental breakfast rather than hot breakfast, with a variety of fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, and flavored cream cheese among other items. (Hot breakfast options will continue to be served at Proctor).
    • The Ross menu will change to pub food favorites for lunch and dinner with items such as burgers, specialty pizza, pasta, and paninis. We also will offer salad and deli items, a yogurt bar, and desserts as we always have.
  • The Grille: Located in McCullough Student Center, the Grille will reopen for lunch Monday through Friday prior to the start of classes.
  • Crossroads Café in McCullough Student Center and Wilson Café in Davis Family Library will switch places. This change is being made in response to student input asking that we keep Crossroads open later to serve both students studying late in Davis library or other parts of campus. The change will also provide flexibility for the student managers to set hours and select food offerings. This also will allow us to reassign a dining staff member to the new Bi-Hall kiosk.
  • Please note that all on-campus retail outlets are cashless, although Tavern on the Tee—our golf course restaurant—and the Middlebury Snowbowl, both open to the public, will still accept cash for now.

Employment Opportunity for Students

Finally, if you have cooking experience and are looking for a campus job, we’re offering students with experience an increased wage of $16.75 per hour to work in either the dining halls or The Grille. To learn more or apply click here
