Grant Will Help Establish Vermont Math Teachers Circle Based at Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Professor of Mathematics Priscilla Bremser has received a grant from the Math Teachers’ Circle Network in support of establishing a Vermont Math Teachers Circle, based at Middlebury.
The funds will be used for a three-day workshop for local teachers in August. By enriching teachers’ own experience of mathematics, the Math Teachers’ Circle program hopes to affect their classroom teaching so that it includes more problem solving, a key component in student learning and engagement in mathematics.
The workshop will kick off the academic year program of monthly meetings where teachers can connect with each other while working on open-ended problems. The Math Teachers’ Circle Network is a project of the American Institute of Mathematics in Palo Alto, California.
Bremser is the Nathan Beman Professor of Mathematics at Middlebury. Her research interests include number theory, finite fields, and mathematics education.
