Announcements

The following message was sent to Middlebury employees on September 9.

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to announce a new incentive as we work our way toward full compliance with our measles immunity verification program

As of August 30, about 50 percent of our employees had verified their immunity against measles. While this is a good start, it’s essential that we reach “herd immunity,” which we will achieve when we hit 95 percent compliance.

To help us reach that goal, we are offering extra time off during Thanksgiving week if we—as a community—can reach certain milestones all the way up to full compliance by September 30, 2024.

Here’s how it will work:

  • If we reach 75% compliance, we’ll take the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off.
  • If we reach 85% compliance, we’ll take Tuesday and Wednesday off.
  • If we reach 95% compliance, we’ll take Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off!

Additional days off will be added as Regular Holidays and follow the same timecard and pay practices.

The goal of gathering immunization information is to protect our campus community and avoid exclusion from campus and significant disruption to our educational mission during a measles outbreak. This incentive applies to year-round employees on our Vermont and California campuses (except employees of the centers at the Institute and our summer Language Schools colleagues—we’ll be working with them separately).

To all of you who have uploaded your immunity verification, thank you. To those who still need to do so, please join this important community effort and upload your verification as soon as possible, or visit our measles information website for instructions, on-campus vaccination clinics, and FAQs.

Sincerely,
