Hello! My name is Sarah Gellman (she/her) and I am so thrilled to be a part of the Counseling team at Middlebury. As a licensed professional counselor, I have found myself in a variety of mental health settings over the years, but college counseling has truly become my home. Supporting students through the ups, downs, and discoveries of emerging adulthood is some of the most rewarding work I have been a part of.

Before becoming a counselor, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education and spent time working in wilderness programs around the country. I later moved to Portland, Oregon, where I worked in the nonprofit sector around social justice, community- building, and service equity issues.

Eventually, I returned to school and completed my master’s in counseling psychology from Lewis & Clark College.

The counseling process never ceases to amaze me; and feel so honored to engage in the work I do with clients. In sessions, I take a client-centered approach, drawing from CBT, solution-focused techniques, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. My hope is that you leave each session with new tools, a clearer sense of yourself, and the feeling that you’re not navigating things alone. I look forward to the journey I get to share with you.

When I am not at work, I enjoy time outside with my family, our two dogs, and two cats. I love running (even if I am not the fastest), jumping into a good swimming hole, and finding creative outlets. Additionally, I have recently been reminded of how much I enjoy and find knitting to be grounding—so if you are interested in learning, please let me know!
