  • Current Anti-Racist Initiatives and What's to Come

    Join us for lunch and a panel discussion with Tara Affolter (Education Studies), Mikaela Taylor (Special Collections), and Renee Wells (Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). From the plethora of DEI workshops Renee has created for faculty and staff, to the support Mikaela brings to the archival work of the Twilight Project, and then the new “Freedom Dreaming” theatre project created by Tara and her students, this panel will help fill in the picture on current efforts to create an anti-racist Middlebury.

  • Dialogue, Race, and Conflict Transformation

    As a part of the new course in “conflict transformation (CT) skills,” the CT Collaborative features David Campt during the Winter term to offer an introduction to Dialogue, Race and Conflict Transformation from his unique lens. Dr. Campt, often called “The Dialogue Guy,” is a renowned expert in inclusion and equity, cultural competence, civic engagement, and intergroup dialogue. For more than 25 years, he has been sought by groups as a thought leader and keynote speaker.

  • On "Freedom Dreaming" and Students’ Dreams Deferred

    Students from Tara Affolter’s class will perform Act II of their “Freedom Dreaming” theatre production, which points out barriers the students have faced or witnessed in the work towards an anti-racist Middlebury. The performance (about 10 minutes) will be followed by an informal discussion with attendees over cocoa and cookies. Audience members will be asked to reflect on what they heard and how it might affect their own curricular and pedagogical choices.

  • Otter nonsense January Improv Workshop

    Head on down to Axinn every Wednesday this month for our January Improv Workshop! We’ll teach you the fundamentals of improv comedy, play some fun games and warmups, and eventually delve into some long form! This workshop is open to all students–no experience required.

  • How to Write a Resume

    Come to this workshop and learn the best way to tell your story in a resume. Learn about action verbs, how to format the document, what to include and what to leave out. A peer advisor will be presenting and all students are welcome. No matter if you’re just starting, or almost done, or anywhere in between. Bring your document with you and work on it during the session.

  • More on “Freedom Dreaming” in YOUR discipline

    Join us for lunch and this final session of the “Freedom Dreaming” series, where participants will explore the ideas offered in the play as well as the live audience responses regarding how to make progress towards an anti-racist Middlebury. Participants will then set anti-racist goals within their own disciplines. This session is also a chance to ask for specific support or offer ideas for more programming around equity, justice, and inclusion.

  • Football in Latin America: Cultural and Political Contexts

    “Football in Latin America: Cultural and Political Contexts” is a Rohatyn Student Advisory Board Hot Topics Lunch with a lecture by Professor Mario Higa of the Luso-Hispanic department. It will build off of the recent World Cup and Argentina’s win to discuss the significance of football in Latin America. This event will be held on Thursday, January 12th at 12:15 pm in the Robert A. Jones House Conference Room. The student-only event will consist of a brief lecture followed by a guided discussion and Q&A on the talk and the topic at hand.

    This summer, the US Supreme Court will rule on two cases determining the future of race conscious admissions in higher education. We invite community members to join us for a dinner conversation with scholars, educators, and community leaders on the significance of this ruling for our community and higher education in the US.

    Featuring commentary from Education Studies Professor Tara Affolter, Political Science Professor Bert Johnson, VP and Dean of Admissions Nicole Curvin, and discussion groups led by JusTalks.
