    NER Out Louder

    Fresh poetry, prose, and the voices of Middlebury College students come together in this warm and inviting event. Students from Oratory Now read selections from the New England Review, lending their voices to the work on the page, and student writers read their own poetry and prose for an audience of students, faculty, and community members. Everyone is invited to a dessert reception in the lobby after the show.

  • Faculty Mentor Lunch: Course Response Forms

    This month’s lunch discussion topic will be Course Response Forms. What are our best practices for reading them? How might we think about the bias inherent in them, their institutional purpose, and other ways to gather student feedback, such as mid-semester course check-ins? This lunch gathering covers an important subject for veteran as well as new faculty and provides a great opportunity to meet new colleagues.

    MMC, Outdoor Programs, Climate Action Program, and Innovation Hub are delighted to bring Maine GearShare to campus. They’ll be offering free gear repair from 12-5 on Oct 25! Drop off gear in need of repair, then connect with student orgs about how to get outside.

  • An Excursion in Number Theory

    Along with geometry, number theory is one of the oldest and most revered areas of mathematics. Topics that are often studied in an elementary number theory course include triangular numbers, squares, and the Fibonacci sequence. Later topics include continued fractions and a class of equations called Pell’s equation.

    “Mechanisms of preference diversity: From genes by environment to behavior “

    Picking a mate is a key biological process across a wide range of species, and animals exhibit great diversity in what traits they use during the mate selection process and what they find attractive. Here, the Westerman lab uses a range of genetic, developmental, and behavioral techniques to uncover mechanisms driving mate preference diversity, using butterflies as a model system.
