    Tuesday-Beginner/Intermediate

    Wednesday-Intermediate/Advanced

    Ballet returns to the Dance Department this Fall. Classical Ballet technique in traditional ballet class structure. No pointe shoes, please.Each session is open to a maximum of 20 participants. PE credit is available for attendance at 8 classes. Previous dance experience in any form is recommended. Open to Middlebury students only.

This program offers a deep physical exploration of contemporary African dance, highlighting the rich cultural and artistic connections between West Africa and American culture.

    Join us for an artist talk with Carrie Hill (Akwesasne Mohawk) of Chill Baskets as she shares the traditional basketry techniques passed down through her family and ancestors, which she continues to use in crafting her black ash fancy baskets.

  • Middlebury Afropop Band 2024

    Middlebury Afropop Band and African Music and Dance Performance Class Joint Concert

    This concert opens with the African Music and Dance Ensemble Performance class performing repertoire that showcases the stylistic and instrumental diversity of traditional East African musical cultures. In the second half of the concert, the Middlebury Afropop Band performs original compositions and arrangements of classic and contemporary popular songs from all over Africa. The band uses pop and rock instrumentation as well as styles that blend traditional African with Western and/or Afro-diasporic musical idioms.
