Orazio Samacchini’s Judith with the Head of Holofernes: An Art Historical Detective Story

Pieter Broucke, professor of history of art and architecture and associate curator of ancient art, recounts the multiyear quest that resulted in the reattribution of one of the museum’s earliest acquisitions from German artist Hans Von Aachen (1522–1615) to Orazio Samacchini (1532–1577), an influential Mannerist artist from Bologna.
