Mahaney Arts Center Dance Theatre

Capoeira is an African-Brazilian art which combines dance, martial arts, acrobatics, and music, emphasizing community, harmony, and philosophy of living. Cline has studied capoeira since 2007, and currently trains with Mestre Silvinho of the international Capoeira Angola Foundation in Seattle. Free

15 dance alumni from the last 15 years take over a week of the dance program curriculum, offering a range of classes from November 13-20, culminating in this panel discussion followed by a reception in the MCA lower lobby.

A “lightly produced” showing of dance experiments by the new batch of choreographers emerging from the Advanced Beginning course, facilitated by Julian Barnett.

NER Out Loud is a collaboration of the New England Review, the Mahaney Arts Center, and Oratory Now. In the tradition of NPR’s “Selected Shorts,” Middlebury student actors read selections from the New England Review in a live performance, lending their voices to the work on the page and bringing it to life for an audience of students, faculty, and community members. Each year the event also features students reading their own work in a “S’More Readings” reception, representing a variety of student-edited journals.

This upcoming DCM will be led by Artist in Residence Meshi Chavez in collaboration with guest artist Subashini Ganesan-Forbes. Together we will explore how embodied freedom comes from collective strength.

DCM is a two-semester credit-bearing course. We will meet Monday -Thursday from 4:30-6:30pm in the Fall of 2022 and this will be your J-term course over the Winter Term of 2023. Students must participate in the pre-semester rehearsal September 9th – 11th.

No need to prepare anything for the audition. Just show up ready to dance.

This workshop will be facilitated by Professor Meshi Chavez to dance and foster the mind and body connection.

An evening of works from The Dance Department Faculty including Lida Winfield, Meshi Chavez, Christal Brown, Laurel Jenkins and Karima Borni in conjunction with students. Lighting Design by Michael Abbatiello.
