The Dance Company of Middlebury (DCM) invites you to their first performance of spring ‘21. “What holds you? on loop” is an original installation submerging the audience and performers in layers of movement, text, projection, sound, and costume. Blending set material and improvisation, DCM will create a unique piece for each of four time slots at 7:30, 7:50, 8:10, and 8:30 pm. This informal showing and discussion about the company’s creative methods and collaborative process features members Yukari Osaka, Zoe Rabinowitz, and Mohammed Smahneh performing solo and duet excerpts from their most recent and forthcoming works, Against a Hard Surface and Last Ward, developed and performed in the Arab World and Europe. Please join us to explore the uses of virtual and augmented reality at Middlebury. At the Expo you will be able to interact with simulations, including blends of physical and digital technology, observe a motion-capture performance, and talk with others about their experiences. Some of the projects included will be the Sea Level Rise Explorer, the Sandbox, and Representations of the Apocalypse. The Expo will conclude with a discussion about the possibilities of XR technologies for Middlebury. All interest levels are welcome.

A dance saturated in light by Elena Demyanenko, Chloe Engel, and Laurel Jenkins. Three simultaneous solos emerge out of prolonged work with color, with the performers cohabiting a viscous dimension of saturated light. Infected by color virus and noise making, they exhibit symptoms which evince something ancient and essential to emotional survival, complete with an extra-lingual mode of communication that is evocative of invocation and incantation. Free
