President Liebowitz will present the 2015 Staff Recognition Awards. These awards have been endowed through the generosity of Rudolf K. Haerle, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who wished through his gift to recognize the importance of staff to the Middlebury College community. A light lunch will be served.

A screening of “Brave Heart,” which features Lizzie Velasquez, who suffers from a rare medical condition that renders her unable to gain weight. While societal norms constantly reinforce the message that the inability to gain weight is a blessing, Lizzie was seriously bullied for her body and her extreme thinness. This documentary shows us that there is no way to achieve the societal norms and receive praise, so we may as well break free from the system.
