Poet, Scholar & Sanskrit Translator Laurie Patton is the author or editor of nine books and more than 50 articles on religion, mythology, South Asian culture, and literature. She has translated The Bhagavad Gita and published two books of poetry, illuminating ancient wisdom with a modern sensibility. Described as a “poetic scholar,” acclaimed for her elegant translation, and known for making erudite subjects accessible, this promises to be a fascinating conversation. 4th Annual Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition

The Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition (www.MBRCompetition.com) final event will take place Friday, May 3rd, 2013, at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS), with Congressman Sam Farr presenting the award to the final winner. The final event of this year’s competition is open to the public and will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 3rd, at the Monterey Institute of International Studies’ Irvine Auditorium at 499 Pierce Street in downtown Monterey.

2014 Translation and Interpretation Fall Forum

Fall Forum is an annual consecutive interpreting event hosted by GSTILE and Practicum interpretation students. This year, 2nd year interpretation students at MIIS will interpret from Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish for the speakers who gather together to discuss one of the most urgent issues of our time: Water.
