History of Arts and Architecture

Supreme, a New York City-based streetwear fashion brand founded in 1994, has cultivated a reputation over the years for making clothing, skateboards, and accessories that sell out in seconds. This lecture will analyze how the brand uses architectural, graphic, and sartorial design to create an urban cultural institution.

Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, is a practicing architect in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and serves as the E. Fay Jones Distinguished Professor at the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas. Working outside the architectural mainstream, his architecture is based in design strategies that draw upon vernaculars, typologies, and the contradictions of place: strategies that seek to transgress conventional boundaries for architecture.

Come and celebrate Johnson Memorial Building’s 50th Anniversary with a lecture on the history of the building delivered by former professor Glenn Andres, followed by associate professor John McLeod, who will discuss the upcoming renovation of the building. Reception to follow with refreshments.
