History of Arts and Architecture

Mark Aronson, painting conservator at the Yale Center for British Art, Louis Kahn’s last building, will discuss the ways in which architecture, light, and the lighting interact with each other, how they influence the way in which paintings age, and how a conservator must negotiate a balance between the scientific understanding of light, the aging of works of art, and the way in which audiences like to see them. Artist talk with Dario Robleto-The Poetry of Prisms: Awe as a Form of Knowledge in Art and Science

This epic film by renowned artist Ai Weiwei is a detailed and heartbreaking exploration of the global refugee crisis. Captured over the course of a year in 23 countries, the film follows a chain of urgent stories that stretches through Afghanistan, Greece, Iraq, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey, and beyond. Shahzia Sikander, the Pakistani-born internationally acclaimed artist who now resides in New York City, will join in a conversation about the meanings and context of Sikander‘s newly installed glass mosaic. Palestinians living on different sides of the Green Line make up approximately one-fifth of Israeli citizens and about four-fifths of the population of the West Bank. Activists in both groups assert that they share a single political struggle for national liberation. Yet, obstacles inhibit their ability to speak to each other and as a collective. Geopolitical boundaries fragment Palestinians into ever smaller groups.
