Diana Matar: State of a Nation - Photography and Police Violence in America

For the past year, artist Diana Matar has been photographing at over 200 sites where police violence has occurred in America for a project entitled “This Violent Land”. In this lecture Ms. Matar will speak about how she uses her camera to question not only the romantic photographic interpretation of the American dream, but also the nation’s acceptance of violence against its citizens at a time of deep social and political change.

Architecture for Humanity: Middlebury Students Design Local Affordable Housing

Please join Middlebury’s intermediate architecture studio for a project exhibition and reception displaying their process towards creating a schematic design for a two-unit housing project in the town of Middlebury. The studio has been collaborating with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter in the first part of a three semester long project that is projected to begin construction in the spring of 2019. Refreshments and music will be provided.

Addison Public Lecture

Addison is a Brooklyn-based designer and builder, with a focus on compact living spaces. In his current role as Director of Construction for Getaway, a “tiny house hotel” company, Addison works with multiple parties to design and produce experiences of quiet retreat in the woods. Prior to working with Getaway, Addison created the uhü, or urban housing unit, a demonstration compact apartment space on wheels that traveled through the city of Boston as a “pop-up” exhibition.

A Love Supreme

Supreme, a New York City-based streetwear fashion brand founded in 1994, has cultivated a reputation over the years for making clothing, skateboards, and accessories that sell out in seconds. This lecture will analyze how the brand uses architectural, graphic, and sartorial design to create an urban cultural institution.
