The 2020 Friends of the Art Museum Purchase Party—our 51st annual!—will be a little different this year. Due to Covid, the entire program will be presented online via Zoom. Yet, as in previous years, museum colleagues will offer presentations of three recent additions to the museum’s collection, and at the end we will give members of the Friends the chance to vote for one of the works to become the Friends’ gift to the museum.

The Middlebury College Museum of Art is proud to partner with Visual AIDS for Day With(out) Art 2020 to present TRANSMISSIONS, a program of six new videos considering the impact of HIV and AIDS beyond the United States.

The Museum produces 6–8 temporary exhibitions each year in addition to its display of works from the permanent collection. Temporary exhibits are often curated by Museum staff using works from the collection. Other exhibits are borrowed from other museum collections or from institutions that specialize in traveling shows. Exhibitions are carefully chosen to support both the curriculum of the College and the needs of the Museum’s education programs.

Featuring more than 100 outstanding works of art from the Newark Museum’s extraordinary collections, Wondrous Worlds will showcase the long history, vast geographic expanse and amazing diversity of works of art in the Islamic world. Two factors distinguish this exhibition: first, the inclusion of works from Southeast Asia and East and West Africa, areas largely overlooked in most exhibitions of Islamic art; and second, modern and contemporary works are featured side-by-side with historic objects.
