How did you get to Middlebury? I was hired as the founding Director of Vermont Campus Compact (VCC), a consortium of colleges and universities committed to the civic purposes of higher education, which Middlebury College housed until 2011. When VCC moved to Saint Michael’s College, I was “redeployed” to serve as Special Assistant to the Director of Education in Action at Middlebury College.

Who do you work with? What is your favorite part of the job? I get to work with everyone at CCI in some capacity. Most of my work is with academic departments and individual faculty on some of our academic outreach initiatives and programs, and I have a dotted line reporting to our Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research to help promote and support experiential learning pedagogies, in particular Project-Based Learning. I love that my job entails being creative and strategic in all facets of my work, and that it has led to some measurable change at the College.

What is the best career advice anyone has given you? Informational networking is such an important practice. Even if it doesn’t lead to a job, it is a great way to build relationships that you will inevitably use at some point.

What is your favorite campus resource? Since community-connected teaching and learning is what brought me to Middlebury, I would say my favorite resource (after CCI of course!) is our Center for Community Engagement.

Interests/Hobbies: Biking, running, gardening, travel, and anything having to do with my sons and my dog! In addition, education is a strong interest, and civic participation a core value.
