Individual Counseling

Counseling offers short-term individual therapy to support the mental health of students. We do the best we can to meet the needs of as many students as possible, so we offer concise sessions (25 minutes) and short-term therapy that is catered to meet your needs. We have also expanded our Same Day availability to help students in the moment they need it. There is no session limit. Please schedule an appointment if you are interested in individual counseling.

Group Counseling

Group Counseling offers the opportunity for a small number of students to get together (albeit remotely) and gain new insights and skills, under the guidance of one of our counselors. Our group offerings vary by semester and student need.

Referral to Psychiatric Care

We contract with the Counseling Services of Addison County to provide medication management and psychiatric care for our students. If you are interested in this, please review the psychiatric referral information. If your request for psychiatric care is related to ADHD, please also see ADHD Treatment.

Referral to Local Providers

Counseling maintains an ongoing relationship with many providers in the greater Middlebury area. If you are interested in establishing a counseling relationship with a clinician off campus, we can help you with the process. This is a great option for those looking for consistent, regular counseling and long-term care during the duration of their years at the college.

Consultation

We strive to serve the consultation needs of the entire Middlebury College community. We are available to students, staff, faculty, administrators, parents, family, and friends to assist with student-related mental health concerns.

Advocacy

We firmly believe in our role as advocates. We can help students find resources on campus and connect with other offices, and we will support their requests for accommodations or other services. We believe that advocacy is fundamental to counseling and integrate it into all of our therapeutic relationships as appropriate.

Remote Study Resources

Due to Vermont statutes, we are unable to provide counseling to students located outside of the state. All enrolled Middlebury students have access to a remote care option called MiddTelehealth. It provides 24/7 access to urgent and non-urgent medical and mental healthcare, at no additional cost.

If you live outside of Vermont and are seeking therapy, we can provide short-term consultation to help you access mental health care in your area. We can also explain what Middlebury College resources are available to you while you are studying remotely. If you would like to set up a consultation, please contact us at counseling@middlebury.edu or by phone at (802) 443-5141.
