Projects for Peace Brand Guidelines

Welcome to the Projects for Peace Brand Guidelines. Consistent use of these materials helps increase positive recognition of our program, celebrate grantee stories of building peace, and encourage diverse, high-quality project proposals.

Language and Style Guide

To maintain a consistent brand identity across all campuses, please adhere to the following naming and terminology conventions:

Program Naming

Official Name: Projects for Peace.

Alternative Name: Davis Projects for Peace.

Do Not Use: “Davis Peace Projects,” “Davis Peace Prize,” or “Middlebury Projects for Peace”.

Terminology

Grantee(s): Use this term for students currently implementing a project. Do not use “scholarship recipients,” “prize winners,” or “fellows”.

Projects for Peace Alumni: Use this for students who have completed their projects (e.g., “2024 Projects for Peace alumna”).

Partner Institution: A college or university that has signed an agreement with Middlebury College to nominate proposals.

Campus Liaison: The primary point of contact at a partner institution.

Implementation: The stage where grantees carry out their work, typically between May and August.

Visual Identity

Logos

We provide three primary logo versions for promotional use on campus and online:

White text with transparent background.

Blue text with transparent background.

Dove symbol only with transparent background.

Partner Usage: We request that you include one of these logos on any social media graphics or promotional materials created for Projects for Peace.

Grantee Usage: Grantees may use the logo for project promotion (e.g., flyers). The logo may not be used to solicit sales (e.g., on merchandise for sale) or in any way that misrepresents the program.

Official Colors

When incorporating colors beyond your own institution’s palette, please use these official hex codes:

Dark Blue: #11568F

Light Blue: #C4DCEF

Dark Yellow: #D8D855

Light Yellow: #E7E6A8

Ethical Storytelling and Photography

We are committed to ethical storytelling that respects the dignity of all participants.

Photo Guidelines

Foreground the Work: Focus on the project activities rather than just the grantee.

Collaborative Framing: Show community members as active contributors, not just props for the grantee’s work.

Emphasize Constructive Emotions: Focus on joy, concentration, and celebration rather than exploitative portrayals of pain or desperation.

Avoid the “Savior” Narrative: Position grantees as collaborators with local communities.

Consent and Children

Consent Required: We require documented written consent from all identifiable individuals over 18 featured in project photographs.

Minors: To ensure safety, we do not share photos of identifiable children in external communications. Photos of children may only be used if they are not identifiable.
