She was part of the third Rohatyn Global Scholars cohort (2023–24) during her first year at Middlebury and is excited to return to the Rohatyn Center as an intern this year. During her junior year, she spent the fall semester at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, where she explored a range of security-related fields, from nuclear nonproliferation and international governance to cybersecurity. She then spent the spring semester at Sciences Po Paris, where she studied history and international relations through a European lens and deepened her understanding through new academic and cultural experiences. Having lived in four different countries throughout her academic journey, she is passionate about understanding the world through culture, language, politics, economics, and everything in between. Outside of the classroom, she loves singing, listening to music, watching movies, and cooking/having good food!
Hazel Stringer is a senior from Bloomington, Indiana pursuing a major in History with a minor in Spanish. She spent her junior fall in Santiago, Chile studying the humanitarian impacts of the country’s seventeen-year dictatorship and the pedagogical methods of teaching young children about complicated histories. Hazel was a member of the third Rohatyn Global Scholars (RGS) cohort and served as a mentor for the program during her sophomore year. She is excited to be returning to the Center for her third and final year as an RGS mentor once more. After graduating, she hopes to combine her academic understanding of social inequalities in migration, gender, and labor with her fluency in French and Spanish to pursue a career in law. When Hazel goes on a study break, you may find her wearing the most unique outfit you have ever seen on the frisbee field, dancing with members of the Middlebury community at Elderly Services Inc., or rewatching Cars for the thousandth time.
