Weybridge House is located on the corner of Weybridge and College Streets. As one of Middlebury College’s Academic and Special Interest Houses, it features a lifestyle centered on local food systems, sustainability, and community living.

House Mission

As the Local Foods House, the Weybridge House mission is to use local food access as a vessel for pursuing racial, economic, and food justice. Weybridge House prioritizes spaces that bring people together and foster a sense of care. Each member of the house is encouraged to pursue projects in and out of the house that align with their personal passions and backgrounds.

Who are Weybridge residents?

Weybridge House residents are a group of 18 students living together in a three-floor house, with a variety of academic interests, personalities, and passions. Food brings them all together, which they use to foster community through Thursday and Sunday dinners, a semesterly feast, and campus events.

Life in Weybridge

Students are strongly encouraged to understand what living at Weybridge entails:

Outreach

Residents seek to create a space that fosters care and connection by working with others. This looks like hosting Iftars during Ramadan, co-sponsoring meals with the mycology club, or lending out their kitchen to individuals to cook food for their families.

Preservation Internship

In the summer, two students work full time with the Knoll and local farmers to buy local food in bulk and preserve it. Together they freeze, pickle, and dry food to use for community dinner and feast throughout the school year. This job is essential to the success of the house and its budget.

Community Dinners

Every Thursday, Weybridge Residents open their doors to the Middlebury community to join them for a home cooked meal made from local foods. Anywhere from 15-40 people attend each week. They occasionally host nights that welcome local food professionals.

Feast

All 18 Weybridge residents band together once per semester to feed 200 people in a giant picnic celebration called Feast. For a whole week leading up to Feast, they fill pots and buckets with home cooked dishes. For the event, they organize music and speeches in honor of the beauty and power of feeding one another.
