Mission
Aligned with Middlebury’s commitment to prepare students to lead impactful, engaged lives and to tackle society’s most pressing challenges, we cultivate experiential learning and institutional action towards a sustainable and just world.
Goals
We achieve this mission, through internships, projects, events, partnerships, courses, residencies, resources, communication that aim to:
- Integrate Systems-Thinking: Establish and sustain a systems-thinking approach to effectively address community sustainability issues and social justice, ensuring a holistic and interconnected perspective.
- Foster Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Strengthen and expand cross-disciplinary and inter-departmental programs and projects that advance sustainability, promoting collaboration across diverse fields of study and practice.
- Elevate Environmental Literacy: Enhance the environmental literacy of our community by deepening awareness and respect for the interconnected needs of both human and nonhuman communities.
- Promote Restorative Practices: Support our community in adopting restorative practices and conflict transformation, creating space for hope, despair, and the full range of human experience.
- Achieve and Adapt Sustainability Goals: Attain our Energy2028, plastic elimination, waste management, and biodiversity and other objectives, while remaining adaptable to new data and continuously seeking better solutions.
