I’m following up on my message from Sunday night about working remotely and providing links to documents that will clarify our policy and provide you with additional information. We’re encouraging all employees in Vermont who can do their jobs remotely to discuss this option with their supervisors.
We have decided we need to move quickly to a mandatory remote work model on the MIIS campus—beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17. Tomorrow, if you are able, please gather the equipment and materials you need to work from home and discuss any last-minute issues with your supervisors.
In February we announced that Middlebury’s new human resources software, Oracle HCM, would go live on March 15.
We are writing to let you know that we have postponed the go-live date, given the extraordinary circumstances we are currently facing and their impact on our ability to make a successful transition.
It may be difficult for you to work on-site at the Middlebury Institute campus during this period. We wanted to write immediately with a short-term approach while we take a few days to develop longer-term solutions this week.
I’m sure you heard Governor Scott’s announcement today that Vermont schools will close beginning Wednesday through April 6. We expect this will present challenges for many of you. It may be difficult for you to work on-site at the College during this period. We wanted to write immediately with a short-term approach while we take a few days to develop longer-term solutions this week.
As we all continue to navigate the rapidly changing situation around coronavirus, I wanted to reach out to you again with an update about our work together as we plan for the temporary suspension of classes and regular activities.

We are writing with an update to previous messages regarding coronavirus. As you know, the global situation is dynamic. Over the weekend, the State Department issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory for Italy, meaning all nonessential travel should be avoided. As we communicated on February 20, Middlebury will not support faculty, staff, or student travel to areas that have a Level 3 Travel Advisory, which now also includes China (Level 4), South Korea, and Iran (Level 4).
