The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Middlebury College Alumni Association cordially invites you to the Austrian Embassy for an evening of music.
Fatima Spar and the Freedom Fries, one of Austria’s most successful music exports of the last years: good old New Orleans swing, Balkan style gypsy-brass, Anatolian folk—the Freedom Fries melt it together and come up with music so fresh and fiery that it has driven crowds mad all over Europe.
All members of the band, which has been dubbed the first post–ottoman swing band, have their roots in different post-ottoman and post-Austrian empire countries. Fatima Spar sings in Turkish and English and has been highly praised for her unique, warm, and versatile voice.
