The San Francisco Chapter of the Middlebury College Alumni Association invites you to an evening lecture with C.S. Johnson Fellow in Political Philosophy Kateri Carmola.
"Private Military Contracting: New Soldiers in New Wars"
Security contractors constitute the second largest force in Iraq, after the American military. They come from countries all over the world and work for established, publicly traded companies, as well as small start up firms. They often earn much more than their military counterparts.
Despite their prominence, their activities go underreported, and the regulations guiding their conduct are unclear. This talk will focus on the present state of security contracting worldwide, and on the implications of their increasing use for our foreign policy and military engagement.
