April 2008
Dear Classmates,
It’s hard to believe, but it really is time for our 30th reunion—a wonderful opportunity to share, reflect, and celebrate. So please mark your calendar and return your registration materials to Middlebury today. You may also register online. Whether you come by yourself or bring a guest or your family, Reunion 2008, June 6–8, promises to be a fantastic time for all.
The College has a full weekend planned for us. Here is a brief overview of scheduled events—some for our class and some for all reunion classes:
Friday, June 6: Registration opens at 3 p.m. in Pearsons Lounge. Parking will be located at the tennis courts behind Proctor. There will be various events scheduled throughout the afternoon, including lectures and an environmental tour of campus buildings. Singles are invited to start their evening by dropping by the second annual Reunion Singles Meet-up, which will include alumni from other classes. We’ll have dinner as a class. After that, we can meet back at Pearsons Lounge for an informal Class of ’78 party.
Saturday, June 7: The morning starts off with breakfast at the new Axinn Center at Starr Library. Our own Paul Rudenberg will speak about the joys and struggles of serving Haitian farmers and others for 17 years through agricultural education. His talk is titled “Healing the Third World Within.” The College is honoring Paul with the Alumni Achievement Award.
Anyone wishing to play golf during the weekend should sign up for the All-Class Reunion Golf Scramble (registration card enclosed). There are special alumni greens fees, and prizes will be awarded. Other options include swimming in the College’s incredible Olympic-size pool, hiking, biking, rowing on Lake Dunmore, or merely relaxing on campus.
Saturday afternoon we will gather for our class photo, reunion parade, and Convocation. Saturday evening, we will join all the reunion classes behind the Mahaney Center for the Arts for a gala dinner, followed by an evening of concerts. Tom Davis is coordinating a garage band or open-mike session for our class to enjoy. Please contact Tom if you are interested in sharing in the fun!
Sunday, June 8: Again this year, Sunday chapel will include an alumni choir, so please plan to sing if you wish and you think you’ll have a voice left after all of the talking and singing from the night before! After chapel, we will have brunch at the Middlebury Inn, hosted by executive chef and classmate Peter Ross.
We also are hoping to coordinate other class-member-led activities, including yoga, bike excursions, and tennis. If you are interested in coordinating any of these, please contact Phyllis, Betsy, or Heather Cahill in the alumni office.
Can’t wait to see you! Come even if you can’t spend the whole weekend. There are several classmates with Friday night commitments who will be arriving late Friday or on Saturday.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Wendell Mackey, Reunion Social Chair
Betsy Bradley Coughlan, Reunion Social Chair
P.S. Have you made your reunion gift yet? If not, please consider doing so. Make a gift online.
