Bread Loaf Programs

Bread Loaf School of English

It is a little-known fact that Middlebury has the largest graduate program in English literature in the country. Each year, some 500 students come to the Bread Loaf School of English’s four campuses from all regions of the United States and around the world to study literature, creative writing, the teaching of writing, and theater arts. Gifts to the Middlebury Initiative can be directed to support Bread Loaf scholarships and fellowships, programs and infrastructure.

Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference

The Bread Loaf Writers' Conference is one of America's most valuable literary institutions. Over the past 85 years, some of the best-known figures in American literature have come to the Green Mountains during the month of August to offer writing workshops in fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Gifts to the conference support every aspect of the conference, including the fellowships and scholarships that bring in a diversity of voices and foster literary excellence.
