Acquisitions - Locate, order, and pay for library materials selected by the Collection Development librarian and liaisons; review and accept licensing agreements for online database and journal purchases; handle film rentals for most campus/departmental film screenings; receive & check-in periodicals, and claim missing issues
Administration - Organizational Planning & Development, Financial Planning, Business Process Analysis, Assessment & Analytics, Strategic Planning, Project Management, Policy, Communications, Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity
Administrative Systems - Administrative Systems Programming, Database Management & Data Integrity - Support and development of Banner and related web-based enterprise systems; custom programming and development, integration and implementation services, management of Oracle database environment, support and writing of Hyperion reports, Banner demographic updates, data integrity and standards; centralized data entry & print/scanning operations
Cataloging - Describe library materials in library catalog and digital asset management systems according to national standards; accept Library of Congress monograph cataloging with minimal review and revision, concentrating on non-LC material, foreign language, and unique materials; possibly outsource music cataloging in part or in whole; work with outside vendors and with in-house staff to maintain catalog accuracy of catalog records and headings (e.g. names, titles, subjects); time from receipt to shelf for some titles may be extended
Classroom and Computer Lab Support - development of virtual environments, software imaging and deployment. Software images in labs tested and maintained. Immediate response to classroom emergencies.
Collection Development - Coordinate selection of library materials in collaboration with liaisons; set selection priorities and monitor budget accounts; capture and analyze data to sustain collection assessment; oversee soliciting and processing of gifts, facilitate cooperative collection development with other libraries, consortia and statewide initiatives.
Curricular Technology - Research, assess, design, develop, disseminate, promote and support current and emerging technologies for teaching, learning and research.
Desktop Support - Desktop support to faculty, students and staff: Printing and copying support. Equipment maintenance and repair. User documentation, user training and education, student management, consulting - departmental technology consulting
Equipment Testing, Configuration, Inventory and Distribution
Event Media Support - Technical support for academic lectures, presentations, film screenings and other events. Recording and editing for web content and digital archives.
Government Documents - Build, maintain, and promote use of and access to government information resources, including digitization and creation of finding aids
Interlibrary Loan - Borrow materials from other libraries for our users; loan materials from our collection to other libraries
Liaison Program - Liaison to academic departments. Communicate and facilitate LIS services. Faculty - LIS advocate. Provide reference services, instruction, consulting on instructional technology, collection development, subject guides, technology training
Library Borrowing Services - Library shelving and stacks stewardship and maintenance. Library facilities staffing and scheduling, student management
Library Systems - Administration, programming and support of library systems and other related systems
Network and Systems - Server Administration & Network - network management, file and print services, backup/restore services, email/calendaring, server administration and programming, application hosting, security services including firewall & spam
Preservation & Processing - Label, barcode, security strip newly purchased materials; make treatment decisions about library materials in need of repair or preservation; perform some repair, binding, and conservation work in-house; reduce either amount or time to completion (or both) of in-house conservation work done; perform cost-analysis of shelf-ready materials via Yankee
Reserves - Assist and support faculty and students to access materials placed on reserve for classes
Security - Works with all parts of LIS and the user community to ensure that Middlebury adheres to best practices for data security, including: password policy, encryption, firewall rules, security audits, security awareness campaigns.
Software Management - Maintain licensing agreements for academic software, testing and distributing software to locations according to teaching needs.
Special Collections & Archives - Build, maintain, process and promote use of and access to Special Collections and Archives, including reference and research consultations for faculty, students, College administration, staff and independent scholars, negotiate gifts of rare and valuable materials; digitization of primary source materials, creation of finding aids, design and mounting of major exhibitions, and associated training and supervising of student labor.
Technology Purchasing for college, Software licensing for college, Contract negotiation for technology services, Administrative & office support for LIS, Business office & billing for LIS; LIS Building Coordinator -- work with facilities and LIS staff to resolve issues relating to the physical plant of the Main Library
Telephone services - provide 911, Alert find, voice and voicemail services and support
Web Services & Academic Application Programming - Primary website administration, database application development, course management system, web 2.0 application, wiki, blog, administration of media servers
