The Middlebury Intercultural Leaders Coalition (MILC) is a cultural org cluster, and works together with the Anderson Freeman Resource Center to facilitate communication and cooperation between student cultural organizations, and offer programs to the campus.

The organizations under this cluster report to the MILC coordinator who helps organizations keep up to date on requirements to remain active, assists with event planning and shopping, and helps manage org finances. There are a long list of student orgs you can join, so there is something for everyone!  

Alianza Latinoamerica y Caribeña

Alianza Latinoaméricana Y Caribeña is a cultural organization at Middlebury College. The goal of the organization is to learn more about Latinx, Hispanic, and Caribbean cultures and share that knowledge with the Middlebury Community through events such as lectures, films, mixers, and social activities. Another goal of the organization is to provide support (social, emotional, physical, etc) to. Latinx, Hispanic, and Caribbean identifying students, especially to new students who may need help in adapting to the Middlebury community.

Asian Students in Action (ASIA)

Black Student Union

Black Student Union (BSU) is a student organization dedicated to supporting the identities of students of color on the Middlebury Campus with a particular focus on students who identify as being a part of the African Diaspora. 

Chinese Society

Chinese Society aims to create a platform for celebrating and raising awareness of Chinese culture, Middlebury Chinese Society caters to the need for communication between diverse cultures represented on campus. It also promotes academic discussions about China and Chinese as a broadly-defined identity group, helping students understand us regarding culture, language, and etc. Working with the Chinese Department and Chinese Language House for various activities, while actively seeking cooperation with other student organizations.

Distinguished Men of Color

Distinguished Men of Color (DMC) have Bi-weekly meetings that vary in content ranging from stress buster nights, board game nights, movie nights,  discussions around race, class, and other cultural identifiers, volleyball/basketball tournaments, paint & sips and more. DMC community of BIPOC folx that aims to support each other both academically and socially to finish college. Membership is open to all Middlebury students regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression and identity, ability, socioeconomic status, religion, politics, and nationality.

German Club

German Club aims to strengthen the connection between the German-speaking communities on the Middlebury campus, including the academic department, native speakers, the German House, and those simply interested in learning about Germany. Bring together people from across campus who are interested in German and German culture, while also facilitating the formation of friendships and bonds within this tight community. 

Il Circolo Italiano

Il Circolo Italiano (Italian Club) is currently deactivated.

International Students’ Organization

The International Students’ Organization (ISO) strives to promote and cultivate a strong, open-minded, and critical multicultural community within Middlebury. The ISO is committed to spreading cultural awareness among students and faculty, supporting international students personally and professionally, advocating for inclusiveness, and celebrating diversity. The International Students’ Organization engages its members through events such as a Career Panel, Trivia Night, and the annual ISO Show, as well as a peer mentorship program to bridge international communities at Middlebury.

Japanese Club

J-Club highlights aspects of traditional, pop, artistic, linguistic, and literary Japanese culture and brings them to campus. We host food events, screenings, celebrations like Harumatsuri (the Spring Festival), workshops on topics like taiko and tea ceremonies. 

Korean American Student Association

The Korean American Student Association (KASA) seeks to provide a space for students to engage with Korean culture and language; this mission includes both students who want to keep in touch with their Korean heritage and students who are interested in Korean culture. Hoping to achieve this mission through cooking and sharing Korean meals, screening Korean movies, celebrating Korean holidays, and connecting students of all backgrounds and class years.

Mixed at Midd

Mixed at Midd is an affinity space that offers a supportive and encouraging community for mixed-race and multicultural students at Middlebury College. We hope that all students that come to Mixed at Middlebury find an embracing community in which they can share and discuss experiences.

Pan Caribbean Student Organization

The Pan Caribbean Student Organization (PCSO) is currently deactivated. There are students who curently meet under a revised name of Caribbean Students Association (CSA), and are working to get the org reinstated, renamed, and active.

Queers and Allies

Queers and Allies (Q&A)  seeks to create a supportive social community, as well as raise awareness and create dialogue on LGBTQ issues and the multiple identities that intersect with them (e.g., race, religion, (dis)ability, class, and nation). We hold topic-driven discussion meetings, throw parties, host kickbacks, bring LGBTQ speakers and performers to campus, organize and/or advertise other queer-related events, and more.

Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) is currently deactivated.

RAISINS (Radical Asians)

RAISINS (Radical Asians) is a student collective at Middlebury College dedicated to Asian/Asian Americans educating and organizing for human dignity and well-being. 

Scandinavian Society

The Scandanavian Society is a cultural organization that strives to create a space where all Scandinavian students can get together, speak their native languages, and introduce their friends and other students to Scandinavian traditions.

South Asian Students Association

The South Asian Students Association (SASA) provides a venue for Middlebury students to explore various aspects of South Asia such as  religion, identity, decolonization, political conflict, food, film, and literature. We host events such as festivals, dinners, discussion sessions, and film screenings and collaborate with other organizations to explore South Asian cultures and religions. We hope to create a shared space that recognizes that South Asian culture is not limited to nation states, as one that transcends boundaries and can take on diverse forms. Everyone is welcome to join our events!

Southeast Asian Society

The South Asian Students Association (SEAS) provides a venue for Middlebury students to explore various aspects of South Asia such as  religion, identity, decolonization, political conflict, food, film, and literature. We host events such as festivals, dinners, discussion sessions, and film screenings and collaborate with other organizations to explore South Asian cultures and religions.

SPUTNIK (Russian and Eastern European Society)

The purpose of SPUTNIK is to learn more about Russian and Eastern European cultures and to promote the sharing of such knowledge with the Middlebury College community through such events as lectures, panels, films, and social activities. This organization also exists to offer students of Russian and Eastern European backgrounds social support, especially new students who may need help in adapting to Middlebury.

UMOJA

UMOJA is an important community on campus that celebrates and promotes African culture. Our organization provides a safe space for students of African descent to connect and build meaningful relationships, while also educating the broader campus community about African culture and history. 

Vietnamese Student Association

The purpose of the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) is to provide a safe space for students to come together in fellowship and friendship. The goal is to provide and create a venue where anyone and everybody can come to explore and learn about Vietnamese culture and heritage. 

Voices of Indigenous Peoples

Voices of Indigenous Peoples (VIP) is a cultural organization that empowers students of the Indigenous diaspora and engages the larger Middlebury community in Indigenous justice efforts on campus. 

West Asian North African Students

West Asian and North African Students (WANAS) is a cultural organization that provides the Middlebury community with a space to have activities relating to food, art, holidays, religion, and other cultural elements from the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region. It will also be a space for social and emotional support for WANA students. Its aim is to promote exchange and solidarity between the many different cultures of the WANA region.

Wxmen of Color

Middlebury’s Womxn of Color (WOC) organization exists to empower womxn from all walks of life, to foster a sense of community, and to stand in solidarity and provide space for our members to be their truest selves.
