Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff Listservs

Faculty and staff are welcome and encouraged to also utilize the AFC, attend our events, show up for community meals, and celebrate heritage months. We recognize the need to be united in our support of students and also how building community amongst the professional staff also benefits their own experience at Midd.

If you are new faculty and staff at Midd, feel free to request a meet and greet with the staff and a tour of the center. We also encourage you to add yourself to our running faculty and staff listservs to connect, mentor or otherwise support the AFC community.

Mentoring Opportunities

The AFC is currently working on revising the mentoring program and model. We will post updated information once the program is solidified. We hope to officially launch in Fall 2026. In the meantime, please reach out to the AFC staff to find out ways you can still be involved.

Parents

F@Mily Orientation

On the first day of Orientation, there are optional orientation sessions for the parents and families including some specific to the parents of first-generation students. This orientation has a focus on helping parents and families understand their student(s)’ journey as a first-gen, the resources they have on campus, how parents can form connections and support systems for themselves, and how they as a family can be empowered to continue supporting their student. These sessions are also a time to ask important questions, receive a tour of campus, and connect with student affairs and other support staff in a more intentional way.

We provide Spanish translated schedules and live interpretation for families during sessions and tours by our First-Gen Orientation Leaders (FGOL).

We provide initial transport for parents from Burlington airport (BTV), the train station in Middlebury or bus station at Port Henry with their students, but do not provide transportation for parents beyond that. We also do not have the ability to provide housing accommodations for parents or family members wishing to attend. There are local housing options at Courtyard by Marriott MiddleburyThe Rooms at the Stone MillThe Middlebury Inn, and AirBNB Middlebury. There are also more lodging options. We do encourage families to make decisions sooner to ensure they can get accommodations and at better pricing.

F@Mily Orientation is from Monday, September 2nd to Tuesday, September 3rd. The final RSVP form that your student will complete in their onboarding tasks allows them to state whether you will be attending and how many will attend, along with other final information.

Alumni

Senior Wall Signing

The Anderson Freeman Resource Center celebrates our graduates every May and February. Graduating seniors are invited to tag their name under the graduation cap on the AFC Alumni Wall of Fame, located in the basement of Carr Hall. Although this new tradition was started in 2018, all alumni returning to campus are invited to stop by the AFC and sign their names.
