Spanish and linguistics professor Brandon Baird brought four students to Guatemala last January to contribute to local efforts to promote the Mayan language K’iche’.
Due to the pandemic, the board also deferred approval of the operating budget for fiscal year 2021, which begins on July 1, 2020.
Presented by the Institute of International Education, the awards are designed to help students gain international and language education in areas of the world considered critical to U.S. interests.
Jacob Freedman ’21 won the highly selective national award for his work in connecting people with nature and the environment.
With tours and campus events cancelled, admissions staff and current students reached out to admitted students in a host of creative virtual ways.
President Lauri Patton thanked the students for engaging with some of the world’s major challenges, from human trafficking to climate change.
The annual catalog recognizes 61 Middlebury faculty and staff members whose combined efforts produced 141 different articles and creative pieces.
Middlebury will keep 6,000 of the masks to meet immediate and possible future needs on campus. The College will donate the remaining 4,000 to local organizations.
Dean of Admissions Nicole Curvin hopes that the new policy–implemented on a three-year trial basis–will ease the application process for students as they cope with the pandemic’s effects.
The College’s Franklin Environmental Center will bring together statewide experts to lead a discussion on local solutions to climate change.
