We will present new world premiere readings by some of the country’s leading women+ playwrights including Sarah Ruhl, Lauren Gunderson, Sarah Mantell, Bridget Carpenter, and Kimber Lee performed by members of Michole Biancosino’s Contemporary Women and Non-Binary Playwrights class at Middlebury College. This theatre event is free and presented through the Axinn Center for the Humanities Public Humanities Lab and with the support of the Middlebury College Department of Theatre.

Traitors: Russia’s Interrupted Opposition Reckoning with the 1990s
2024, Maria Pevchikh and Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation released Traitors, a provocative documentary series asking how Russia’s democratic opening of the 1990s ended in Vladimir Putin’s authoritarian regime. The film places much of the blame on the political and economic elites surrounding Boris Yeltsin, focusing on corruption, privatization and the rise of the oligarchs, the controversial 1996 presidential election, and ultimately the choice of Putin as Yeltsin’s successor.

Margaret Jacobs Cameron Visiting Artist Lecture

Margaret Jacobs is a Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) metalsmith, who creates fabricated steel sculpture that showcase and explore kinships to botanicals and the natural world as well as values systems that we hold as humans. Margaret’s work explores the lines of contemporary craft and art objects alongside Indigenous narratives (as an enrolled member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation) as well as historical and personal narratives. By melding historical narratives with cultural and personal narratives, complex layers of storytelling are developed in her work.
