Lyre and Lyricism: A Concert of Greek Music From Antiquity to the Present
This fascinating program spans at least 2,500 years of musical history. Based on authentic fragments of ancient Greek hymns that have survived, composer, musicologist, and lyre soloist Nikos Xanthoulis and mezzo soprano Sophia Karakouta illustrate the evolution of Greek music from antiquity to the present. Through storytelling and performance of hymns and traditional and modern songs to the accompaniment of a reconstructed ancient lyre, the audience is invited to experience the journey of Hellenic music through time.
