The Dance Company Middlebury Pre-Semester Workshop is an immersive introduction to the season’s creative process, centered on the question What is a body? Dancing Outside the Lines. Dancers engage in a rigorous and exploratory practice that moves between structure and exploration, working collaboratively to build, reshape, and refine movement. The workshop establishes a shared language and creative approach for the ensemble.
The workshop is open to all students. Participation is required for dancers selected to be part of Dance Company Middlebury.
Mahaney Arts Center Dance Studio
Described as spiritual, joyful, powerful, and raucous, Shape Note (or Sacred Harp) singing is a traditional American style of four-part, a capella, community singing popular in the United States before the Civil War. This style still thrives across the US and in the UK, with strongholds in the American South and New England. It is called Shape Note because the notes of the scale are indicated by distinctive shapes and names.

A livestream of the College’s traditional fall Convocation ceremony, where President Baucom addresses incoming students, describes the opportunities at the College, and encourages them to take full advantage of everything a Middlebury education has to offer.
