  • More on “Freedom Dreaming” in YOUR discipline

    Join us for lunch and this final session of the “Freedom Dreaming” series, where participants will explore the ideas offered in the play as well as the live audience responses regarding how to make progress towards an anti-racist Middlebury. Participants will then set anti-racist goals within their own disciplines. This session is also a chance to ask for specific support or offer ideas for more programming around equity, justice, and inclusion.

  • Football in Latin America: Cultural and Political Contexts

    “Football in Latin America: Cultural and Political Contexts” is a Rohatyn Student Advisory Board Hot Topics Lunch with a lecture by Professor Mario Higa of the Luso-Hispanic department. It will build off of the recent World Cup and Argentina’s win to discuss the significance of football in Latin America. This event will be held on Thursday, January 12th at 12:15 pm in the Robert A. Jones House Conference Room. The student-only event will consist of a brief lecture followed by a guided discussion and Q&A on the talk and the topic at hand.

  • What would ending affirmative action mean for Middlebury? A Community Dialogue

    This summer, the US Supreme Court will rule on two cases determining the future of race conscious admissions in higher education. We invite community members to join us for a dinner conversation with scholars, educators, and community leaders on the significance of this ruling for our community and higher education in the US.

    Featuring commentary from Education Studies Professor Tara Affolter, Political Science Professor Bert Johnson, VP and Dean of Admissions Nicole Curvin, and discussion groups led by JusTalks.

    Weekly SOH Arts & Culture Hangout

    An engaging and fun way to experience and learn about Israeli art and culture.
    Each week will provide something new and different according to students’ requests - including making art and learning calligraphy; Mystical topics of spells, amulets, and witchcraft in ancient Judaism and contemporary Israel; watching Israeli films and shows; graffiti in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem; listening to Israeli music; meeting interesting people from various sectors of Israel; and cooking and eating lots of Israeli foods.

    Heart of Afghanistan

    The Heart of Afghanistan project features four brilliant Afghan musicians—famed singer/Afghan TV star Ahmad Fanoos on vocals & harmonium, his sons Elham on piano and Fanoos on violin, and Ahmad Sohail Karimi on tabla—who are currently unable to perform inside Afghanistan, where the Taliban has banned all music. The group carries the flame of Afghanistan’s rich and complex musical heritage from its pre-Islamic Buddhist period to the modern era.
