We live in a world full of hot takes, strong opinions, and people who are very sure they’re right. The problem? Certainty makes connection harder. Certainty Is Overrated is an interactive workshop that treats curiosity as a serious (and understanding) superpower. 

Through games, conversations, and thought experiments, you will explore how curiosity fuels imagination, softens snap judgment, and opens the door to empathy, understanding, and freer thinking.

Jasmin Msuya will give the first talk in the annual Anthro & Friends Winter Speaker Series, titled “Rethinking Language of Instruction in Public Secondary Schools in Tanzania: Ethnographic Case Study on the Implementation of the Educational Language Policy in the Classroom.” Jasmin’s research centers on how the transition from Kiswahili instruction in primary school to English instruction in secondary education shapes teaching, learning, and language ideologies in a semi-urban Tanzanian public secondary school.

Asli Ü. Bâli is the Howard M. Holtzmann Professor of Law at Yale Law School. She is an expert in international human rights law and comparative constitutional law focused on the Middle East. Dr. Bâli received her doctorate in Politics from Princeton University in 2010 and her law degree from Yale. Before her academic career, she worked for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and as an associate at Cleary Gottlieb. Shen then went on to UCLA where she was a founding faculty director of the Promise Institute for Human Rights. Dr.
