The German Theater Group presents Bernd Spehling’s farce “Der Teufel liest auch Kleinanzeigen”. A strike at the airport leave pilot Marcel and his lover Natalie with a few days off while Marcel’s wife is away. As they settle into Marcel’s home, their intimacy is short-lived: neighbor Alfons has placed an ad in the paper, looking for people who, like him, have trouble operating their floor waxing machines.

Reception for German Seniors and their families

The two-by-five inch computer in our learners’ pockets can challenge language teachers’ sense of control in ways that are both distracting and liberating. In this presentation, I set out from Steve Thorne’s notion (Little & Thorne, 2017) of “re-wilding” language education to present the affordances of mobile learning for the usage-based aspects of language proficiency. Practical suggestions will be given for activity and task design for mobile learning, and for alternating between tech-intensive and tech-free spaces in our language curricula.
