Timely update September 2026: Travel Document Reminders
ISSS welcomes you back to campus, and the first day of classes, for those in Vermont, on Monday, September 14th. As you travel over the next week either by returning internationally and entering the U.S, or from traveling within the U.S., we want to provide you with a reminder about carrying important immigration documents as you travel in airports, and while you are staying in the U.S.
We strongly recommend that all of our international students and scholars carry the following important documents with you at all times. *Additional documentation may be required, as outlined in the webpages below. We recommend reviewing each link carefully to identify any requirements that may apply to your situation.
In addition, Middlebury campuses and instructional sites are within the 100-mile border zone. ISSS advises you to carry and show (only if requested) hard copy documents verifying your status as opposed to showing a photo of the documents on your device.

*Canadians: Do NOT use another status (including NEXUS) to enter the U.S. Clearly state your intent to enter in F-1 or J-1 status when presenting your I-20 or DS-2019 to the official.
