Staff Pick: Becoming by Michelle Obama
| by Carrie Macfarlane

Obama, Michelle. Becoming. New York: Crown, 2018
Michelle Obama’s autobiography is so popular that it took me several years to get my hands on a library copy. It definitely was worth the wait. As each phase of Michelle’s story unfolded, I began looking forward to the next. That’s what it was like for her to grow up in Chicago? I wonder what it was like for her to go to school at Princeton! How did she meet Barack? And, how did she manage to retain her own professional identity while her husband was President of the United States? The precision of Michelle’s writing allowed me to experience each moment as if I was there. I totally enjoyed this book, and as a librarian who works with students at a historically white college, I also found it highly relevant.
