Samuel Miller

An early Middlebury town father, Samuel Miller (1764-1810) was born in Litchfield, Massachusetts, on April 2, 1764. He was admitted to the bar in 1784 and began the practice of law in Middlebury in 1789.

The meeting on September 30, 1798, at which Yale President Timothy Dwight, Gamaliel Painter, Seth Storrs, Darius Matthews, and others discussed the advisability of establishing a College at Middlebury, was held in Miller’s home. A Charter Trustee of the College, Miller served as its second Treasurer, 1803-06.

Samuel Miller died in Middlebury on April 17, 1810.
