ITS Fall 2021 Updates

How to send a project request to ITS.

The first step in order to get your project to ITS is filling out and submitting a Project Request via the Web Help Desk system (go/WHD). Please provide as much information as possible in order for ITS staff to understand your needs.

After completing the project request form, ITS will work with you to complete a Project Charter that defines the overall Scope of the project. ITS has conveniently created a template Project Charter for everyone to use (Middlebury Google Apps account and log-in required). It can be accessed via go/itsprojectcharter.

The ITS Project Charter is a blank template and documentation related to your project request. The project manager coordinates completing this document and will ask you to complete some sections to further explain your project request, depending on its scope. Please keep in mind that the depth or type of information required to complete a project charter will vary according to the size, complexity, risk and budget of the project

Here is an example from a real project. If you would like to see more project charter examples, take some time to view the links below:

You may ask why you are being asked to do this?  Please take some time to review the ITS Project Management Process

To add overall clarity to the request workflow, see the diagram below:

When a request is submitted the requester and the ITS project manager create a project charter. Based on the charter, the project is then approved by the ITS manager team, after which these groups draft a high level project plan, prioritize the project, and complete the project plan. The functional area staff work with ITS staff to execute the project plan, after which the project is considered completed.
