Understanding when and why to use specific research methods and knowing how to use them well, effectively, safely, and ethically is essential to conducting sound research work in the academic sphere and in the professional world.
Social Science Research Methods (SSRM) at Middlebury is an ongoing collaborative development that serves multiple needs of students and faculty involved in social science research across the institution.
We are developing training modules in research design and data collection that introduce topics such as formulating research questions, identifying appropriate methods to explore those questions, and tutorials focused on specific research methods, including the following:
- Surveys (questionnaires and interviews)
- Ethnographic studies and fieldwork
- Archival work
- Media analysis
- Experiments
