Dr. Anderson is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Vermont and a physician for Middlebury College Athletics and the US Ski and Snowboard teams. He is thrilled to join the Middlebury Sports Medicine Team and provide orthopedic care to the Panthers and the Middlebury community as a former NESCAC athlete himself. Dr. Anderson enjoys caring for and treating athletes of all levels; specifically, giving patients the ability to return to an active lifestyle or competitive sport after injury. His academic interests include      research in translational science and engineering to bring novel technologies to the operating room.

Dr. Anderson grew up in Carson City, Nevada where he was a Junior Olympic and State Champion alpine ski racer in nearby Lake Tahoe. For undergrad, he enrolled in a liberal arts and engineering dual-degree program between Colby College in Maine and Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. In college, he walked onto the Varsity lightweight rowing team and coached the Dartmouth novice lightweight crew upon graduation. Dr. Anderson then attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, where he also completed a PhD in biomedical engineering as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral dissertation focused on translational and basic science research in cartilage tissue engineering and stem cell biology. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Rochester, where he was awarded the Resident Teaching and Outstanding Research Awards. He then completed his fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Duke University, where he served as a physician for Duke Athletics including the men’s football, basketball, and baseball teams.

Dr. Anderson and his wife Abigail are avid cyclists and skiers, and they enjoy spending time outdoors with their sheepadoodle named Maisie.
