The Institute’s Student Services team oversees a portfolio of initiatives and offices, including new student orientation, residential life, student organizations, campus-wide events, and the administrator on call and care teams, as well as providing advising to the Student Advocacy Council.

Care Reports by Acuity and Type

As on the Vermont campus, Institute community members, including students, faculty and staff may submit Care Reports to express concern for the wellbeing of a student. For more information about Care Reports, refer to the Care Management page.

The Academic Concerns care reports depicted above consist primarily of Course Alerts.

Common Concerns

Tracking the types of concerns students experience can help us design and refine supportive measures. The percentages depicted below represent the the frequency with which a particular concern type is part of a Care Report. For example, physical health concerns were present in 10% of this year’s Care Reports, Relationship / Peer concerns in another 10%, and so on. Individual Care Reports often involve multiple concern types.

Highlight: Student Governance Revitalized

The Institute’s student governance structure was reenvisioned in 23/24 academic year by the Student Leadership Task Force. Nominations, elections, and leadership training were launched in fall 24, with the revitalized SAC starting service in spring 25. The SAC presently consists of four elected officers, nine appointed office GAs, and six appointed program GAs, ensuring representation for every in-person program. SAC reps have amplified the student voice at meetings of key committees and boards, including the Institute Board of Advisors, Student Experience Team, TI Blue Sky Working Group, Housing Task Force, Faculty Senate, Endowment Committee, and various town halls. The SAC has also contributed to campus vibrancy, planning an end of year Gala, and has addressed food security issues on campus by establishing a food pantry.

Highlight: Student Support Care Team

In September 2024, the Institute’s first official Care Team was convened and trained to provide holistic, wraparound support for students facing academic, personal, and social challenges. While this work has always been part of our mission, the creation of a dedicated team of student-facing specialists—equipped with targeted training and aligned processes—enables us to operate within a best practice model, enhancing the consistency and effectiveness of our student support services.
