A view of Middlebury lands at sunset.

The Center for Health and Wellness promotes student well-being in a confidential environment.

30000 Student Interactions Per Year

The center’s medical, counseling, sports medicine, and health education staff are available free of charge to help students with physical, emotional, or interpersonal issues. Collectively these teams engage in more than 30,000 student interactions each academic year.

Academic Year 24/25 Highlights

Definition and Transparency in Scope of Care

For FY25, the Center for Health and Wellness (CHW) launched scope of care statements for each of its offices, as well as a departmental scope of care. The feedback from students and families has been that the new documentation is clear, accessible, and helps them understand the resources (and limits) that exist within the CHW, the College, Addison County, and Vermont for meeting complex healthcare needs.

Culturally Competent Healthcare

In FY25, Middlebury’s Center for Health and Wellness partnered with Violet, a cultural competence analytics and training platform dedicated to advancing health equity. Violet’s online education platform helps ensure that Center staff have access to continuing education related to populations that are most underserved in the US healthcare system, including BIPOC, Trans/GNC, and LBGQ patients. To date, Center staff have collectively completed more than 500 hours of continuing education with Violet, earning 77% the Verified Inclusive Provider status and the Center as a whole, the Verified Inclusive Organization designation. This designation recognizes organizations that lead the industry in delivering culturally competent care and addressing health disparities in underserved communities. The Center’s goal for the next calendar year is to reach 100% verification.
