Frequently Asked Questions
For Middlebury students, most credits transfer back to Middlebury as general credit. To earn departmental credit for major/minor/distribution requirements, students need approval from the department chair.
Students from other institutions should consult with their study abroad and/or registrar’s office.
The MIIS credit system is different from Middlebury College. See the conversion information below.

For Middlebury College students, financial aid travels to Monterey. Additional out-of-pocket expenses and travel to MIIS will be factored into your financial aid award.
Students from other institutions should contact their financial aid office. Generally speaking, your federal aid should travel. Institutional aid may or may not travel depending on your school’s policy.

Students will live in Munras Residence Hall – recently renovated, fully furnished housing for up to 87 students.
Study Away students can stay in double or triple rooms. There are shared kitchens, bathrooms, study spaces, and common areas.
Housing in the residence hall is guaranteed for fall students who apply by March 15th and for spring students who apply by October 1.
Note: There is no dining hall or meal plan. Students have access to the kitchens in the residence hall.
