Fellowships

Each year Middlebury students and alumni receive nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships for research opportunities, graduate study and independent projects. Fellowships in the CTLR has released their annual report of recipients.

CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP 

Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, the Critical Language Scholarship Program is a fully funded overseas language and cultural  immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students, with the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages. More info

J. WILLIAM FULBRIGHT GRANT 

The Fulbright US Student Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to increase mutual understanding between  the United States and other countries. Fulbright Grants enable graduating seniors and young alumni to undertake research or advanced study or teach English as a second language (ETA) for up to one year in a foreign country. Note: this list reflects those who were offered Fulbright grants this year; not all grant recipients have accepted their awards. More info and News release

GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP 

Goldwater Scholarships recognize excellence in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. Sophomores and juniors receive one- or two-year scholarships for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, room and board, up to $7,500 per year. More info and News release

LAFAYETTE FELLOWSHIP

The Lafayette Fellowship is designed to support the next generation of young leaders with a strong interest in the US-France transatlantic relationship, and funds one year of master’s-level study in France for up to 30 outstanding American students. More info

NSF GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 

The National Science Foundation (NSF) promotes careers in science, math, and engineering. The award  provides funding for up to three years of graduate study leading to a master’s or doctoral degree. More info and News release

Princeton in Africa is a non-profit affiliate of Princeton University that develops young leaders as they contribute to some of the most impactful organizations on the African continent. In 26 years, this program has placed over 750 Fellows with more than 130 organizations in 37 African countries. Our Fellows, through their work, have made contributions to Africa’s institutions in the areas of Business and Economic Development, Education & Youth Capacity Building, Public & Community Health, and so much more. HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship is awarded to outstanding college juniors who are committed to a career in public service, have excelled academically and demonstrated strong leadership. Approximately 55-60 scholars are selected annually and awarded up to $30,000 for graduate or professional study. More info and News release

THOMAS J. WATSON FELLOWSHIP 

Watson Fellowships enable seniors of unusual promise to engage in focused independent study and travel abroad after graduation. The award is $30,000. Up to 50 Fellows are selected from the 40 participating colleges. More info and News release

YENCHING ACADEMY FELLOWSHIP 

The Yenching Academy of Peking University offers full fellowships for top students around the world to  pursue an intensive program of interdisciplinary classroom and field study—in English—of Chinese history and culture, as well as current issues in China’s development, leading to a Masters in China Studies.
