Pre-Health Info Session II: Anatomy of an Applicant
Tue, Sept. 16 at 7-8pm ET, MBH 220
This Pre-Health Info Session with Hannah Benz and Mary Lothrop is designed to help prospective candidates determine when/how to be most competitive in the medical school application process. This session will emphasize AAMC competencies, how to articulate your ‘why,’ and strategies for identifying strong individual letters of recommendation. 

Late Fall Fellowship Opportunities
Mon, Sept. 29 at 4:30-5:30pm ET, LIB 201
Learn about fellowships with late fall and winter deadlines: Beinecke, CLS, David Weill, Goldwater, St. Andrews, Truman, and Udall. These include awards for graduate study, summer study, and undergraduate study in various fields. The session led by Dean Lisa Gates will provide a quick overview of the fellowships and nomination process.

There are opportunities for all class years. US citizenship or US national status is required for these fellowship opportunities. Read more about specific fellowships at go.middlebury.edu/fellowships.

Finding Undergraduate Research Opportunities On and Off Campus

Pre-Health Info Session III: Medical School Application Timeline Review (Virtual)

Join the health professions team as they demystify the professional school application process. Mary Lothrop and Hannah Benz will be leading this session on Middlebury’s internal health professions committee and how to develop and submit a competitive medical school application. They’ll be joined by candidates who have already gone through the HPC review process and will be able to share their personal insights. No registration necessary. Mark your calendars and join here

Samara Gordon Wexler ‘23.5, Watson Fellow, “What does it mean to die well?”
Tue, Oct. 28 at 4:30-5:30pm ET, Hillcrest 103
What does it mean to die well? Samara Gordon Wexler ’23.5 will speak about her year-long Watson Fellowship project exploring what this means across different cultures and healthcare systems. Samara traveled to the UK, Ghana, South Africa, India, New Zealand, and Ireland, working alongside death doulas, fantasy coffin makers, and medical teams serving remote villages in order to understand how communities support end of life care. Registration is appreciated.

Learn about the Watson fellow experience from someone who has done it! We will review the nomination and application process as well. The Watson Fellowship is open to students of all citizenships. UK Fellowships, Watson, and Fulbright Info Session

Learn about these fellowships for seniors and alumni. UK fellowships include Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill and Gates-Cambridge. Fellowships support graduate study and postgraduate research and independent projects in various fields. The session led by Dean Lisa Gates will provide a quick overview of the fellowships and nomination process. Hertz Fellowship: Funding for graduate study, STEM fields. Seniors/alumni. High GPA; US citizen or permanent resident; GRE or MCAT scores (for MD/PhD) required. Deadline Oct. 31 (11:59pm PT). hertzfoundation.org 

Michel David-Weill Scholarship: Supports a two-year master’s program at Sciences Po (France). Must be US citizens, seniors/super-seniors, minimum GPA of 3.7. Candidates apply independently to Sciences Po. French not needed to apply. 2025 internal nomination application deadline is Oct. 1. go/david-weill

NSF GRFP: Funding for graduate study, STEM fields. Seniors/alumni. High GPA; US citizen, US national, permanent resident. nsfgrfp.org

Soros Fellowship: Funding for graduate study for new Americans. Seniors/alumni eligible. Applications due Oct. 30 (2pm ET). pdsoros.org 

St. Andrews Scholarship: Funding for graduate study in Scotland. Seniors/super-seniors only. Must have 3.7+ GPA, financial need, US citizenship, some Scottish ancestry. Nomination applications due Nov. 10. go/standrews

For Sophomores and Juniors

Beinecke Scholarship: Funding for graduate study in humanities and social sciences. Juniors only. Strong academic performance, documented financial need, US citizen or US national. Nomination applications due Jan. 27. go/beinecke

DAAD Rise: STEM summer research internships in Germany. Sophomores, juniors eligible. No German language required. Accepting applications Oct. 15 - Nov. 30 (11:59 CET). daad.de/rise/en/rise-germany

Goldwater Scholarship: Tuition award, STEM students planning research careers. Sophomores and juniors eligible. Must have 3.7+ GPA, US citizen or US national. Nomination applications due Nov. 10. go/goldwater

Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship (NOAA): Tuition award, NOAA internships and mentorship. Sophomores eligible to apply; must be a US citizen working in NOAA-related field. Application deadline Jan. 31 (11:59pm ET). www.noaa.gov/office-education/hollings-scholarship

PPIA Junior Summer Institute: Fully-funded summer program for juniors committed to public service careers, focuses on underrepresented groups. Critical Language Scholarships: Immersive summer study abroad in 15 languages. All class years eligible to apply; must be a US citizen. Application opens early October (check back at their website); deadline in November. clscholarship.org
