Kate Bauman '16 Pursues Marine Chemistry Research

Kate Bauman ’16 entered a Ph.D. program at Scripps Oceanography in September searching for bioactive compounds from marine sponges.  She is shown here this past December diving for sponges in waters around Guam.  Kate received excellent training for this research from her Middlebury Chemistry faculty mentor Lesley Ann Giddings when she performed her senior thesis research looking for antibiotic compounds from extreme microbes.
